-range rocket launch that's managed to put a satellite in earth's orbit. here's why it is important to all of us. even though north korea is one of the poorest countries and many people are starving there, the korean peninsula is the most tense, most dangerous places on earth. there are roughly one million north korean troops on it is side of the militarize zone separating from south korea. as well as nearly 30,000 u.s. forces. not only are they within strikes distance of the launch site, a long-range rocket shows north korea is on its way to developing technology to launch a rocket at the united states's west coast and hawaii. officials tell cnn that the working assumption is that the north koreans got outside help from others, including iran. so today's launch is raising some huge concerns. let's go to our pentagon correspondent barbara starr. i assume they are pretty surprised and alarmed by the successful launch over at the pentagon? >> look, wolf, because of everything you just mentioned, indeed, the u.s. military, the intelligence committee have been watching north korea for days now 24/7

at the park and ride under 101. there used to water creeping up and back here, but this is higher than the usual high. king tides happen once a month when the sun and moon pulls are lined but these high tides are the highest of the year. the king tide coincide was big winter storms. water levels in some areas will be 10 feet above normal. they do recede quickly. with extreme low tides as well. sebastian figures his trees will not float away. he's looked up high tide predictions and planning accordingly. >> trees are still a foot above the water. i'm from holland and i know about water management. >> he is from holland and knows a little bit about water manment and will be putting that knowledge to use through friday. possibly saturday. then, again, the king tides return in mid january. >> we've been out and about today and the weather was spectacular. >> it's been cooperating. leigh glaser is here with a look at the accu-weather forecast it was touch and go this morning because there is a weak cold front moving through. lots of activity moved on out, colder air mass settling in. still

brings us right to dan simon. he's live from suburban portland this morning. what else do we know about jacob roberts? >> reporter: well, good morning, soledad. his name surfaced less than 24 hours ago so it's still a bit early in the investigation. but the things that you would typically look at, his family life, you know, where he works, his relationships, haven't seen really any obvious signs. investigators say they haven't found a criminal history, no violent past. so at this point things don't really add up. people have been trying to look at his facebook page, esee if there are any clues there. there is a piece of artwork on his facebook page saying follow your dreams. the word "cancelled" stamped over it. could that suggest anything? at this point we don't know that. there are these reports that he was planning to move to hawaii. he was telling friends that he inherited a bunch of money and had scheduled a flight to go there, but really no truth in that as best as we can tell. everyone we have talked to seems genuinely shocked that this happened, including an ex-girlfriend who ac

story, and it is horrible to have to report. but walk us through what happened. >> yeah, a little before 8:00 this morning, we received a call from a resident, a 911 call stating there was a shooting in a residence. when we arrived on scene, a lady came out later identified as jovan's mother, stating there was a lady inside shot multiple times. officers went in and she was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. about 20 minutes later, about ten minutes after 8:00, we received a call from arrow head stadium security and they had stated that jovan belcher was standing out in the parking lot of the practice facility with a gun to his head. when the officers arrived there, when they were getting out of their car they started to approach. and that is when jovan walked the opposite direction and shot and killed himself. >> oh, my gosh. and the coach said that he did it in front of the coach, right? >> that is correct, when the officers pulled up, coach crennel, and two others were standing outside talking with him. and you know, after the shooting we spoke
